  2. Chapter 20 Summary • They are in Hong Kong and trying to get to shanghai. John Bunsby pilots the ship. Fogg is kind enough to ask detective Fix to take a seat in this hired ship as well. Fix agrees and the group leaves Hong Kong on the ship, with the destination of Shanghai.

  3. Chapter 21 Summary • The journey of the Tankadere is described in this chapter. The ship moved well and Bunsby hoped to reach Shanghai in time. Everybody on board is in a state of suspense as to whether they’ll reach, in time to board the next ship. When they are three miles from Shanghai, they see the American liner leaving at the appointed time.

  5. Points of Interest • They took a carpet bag along the voyage. • It mentioned them carrying their luggage in wheelbarrows.

  6. Characters • Phileas Fogg- (male) He is the main character in story. • Aouda- (female) The girl they picked up from India. • Fix- (male) The character that follows Phileas Fogg around the world. • John Bunsby- (male) The pilot of the ship.

  7. Transportation • The Carnatic was a ship on which they traveled on to get to Shanghai.

  8. Cultural Nuances • They used carpet bags instead of suitcases. (picture on the left). • They used wheelbarrows to carry their luggage. Now, our luggage (suitcases is what we call it now) has built-in wheels making it easy to take with you. (Picture on the right)

  9. Amount of Money Spent • All that is mentioned in these 2 chapters is that John Bunsby got paid a certain amount per day to be a pilot.
