  1. GROUP PRESENTATION TUCP CMTU TLTUC

  2. Problems of Youth Employment • High unemployment • About 60% of the Unemployment rate is composed of the young workers Less experience Companies tend to hire the more experienced adult to cut costs on training the young inexperienced workers Lower wages The youth normally work as part-time employees.. In the advent of “Labor Contractualization”, as the youth has been engaged so much into it, as they are not member of any labor union, they get no wage increases as the union members normally receives

  3. Lower benefits • Since they are “Contractual Laborers”, they don’t enjoy Medical, Hospitalization and other fringe benefits. • Less skilled • Number of the youth, who got out of schooling early, are lesser skilled than their professional counterparts. There is also lack of Vocational Training Centers. • Competition with foreign Workers • Foreign companies hire more skilled and cheaper foreign workers.

  4. The employment problems are in a more difficult situation than that of the adult workers. Around 60% of the Unemployment rate is composed of the youth workers. The tendency for employers to hire older and more skilled workers is more often, the stumbling block of the Young job seekers. This cuts the expenses of training younger ones. In this view, it is unlikely for the young jobseeker to get hired; ratio shows 3:1 possibility for the youth, to get the job While the youth prefer white-collar job, this had played major fact for the youth employment to go down

  5. CAUSES OF THE YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROBLEMS DEMAND Not enough public works and private sector jobs available for the young workers. The employer’s requirements are getting higher making it difficult to get in. Not enough jobs are created, that creates high level of competition for the job. They require adult workers, then young workers, making it the young workers as secondary choice for employment.

  6. SUPPLY The youth are choosy with jobs. Very few young people wanted to work on agriculture, manufacturing and manual labors. The youth underwent very common and popular education and vocational training making the job availability shrink, and harder to compete for the job.

  7. Matching Function Not enough information on the labor market. Education and Vocational Training mismatched with available jobs Experience versus the Age level of the applicants.

  8. The Government must give more efforts and attention to the need for the young workers to be employed, though policy and regulation. Putting up action programs to develop professionalism of the youth. The trade unions, must be responsible not only with the members but for nation building as well. Union should also take care of the whole society and must acknowledge effects of what action the normally are into. Trade union should initiate action programs for the governments employment programs for the youth. Young people should be responsible to get the right education for the right job
