  2. Utah Northern Region Childhood Obesity Project • Background: In light of growing national and statewide concerns about childhood obesity, Intermountain Urban North Region has adopted a goal to reduce childhood obesity rates in that region.

  3. UNR Childhood Obesity Project • Purpose: • Collect baseline measures that will support the development of childhood obesity interventions. • Data will serve as a baseline measurement to assess the extent to which the the intervention is successful.

  4. UNR Childhood obesity project • 7 elementary schools within the northern region of Utah. • 3rd grade • 480 kids participated • December 17, 2010

  5. Ogden School District • Total Schools: 66 • Traditional Schools: 50 • Special Schools: 10 • Alternative Schools: 6 • Number of Title I Schools: 16 • Number of Students: 31,828 • Full-Time Teachers: 874

  7. After School Programs • YMCA • Provides a safe, exciting, and fun environment for students from Kindergarten through Sixth Grade. There is a monthly fee of $40.00/student.

  9. Racial Demographics • White, 79% (only one race) • Hispanic origin, 23.6% (may be of any race) • Black, 2.3% • 12% born foreign • Language other than English spoken at home- age 5+, 21.4%
