  19. Summary Ratings • Remember that the NC TEP is based on holistic scoring versus analytic scoring. An analytical scoring system would require the evaluator to add up or average across indicator ratings to create a total quantitative score • Holistic scoring considers all of the evidence simultaneously and in total (overall), and leads to a summary qualitative judgment about the state of performance using the rubric

  21. Step 1 – Determine final ratings for each element • The Observation Scoring Summary will give you the results of each observation either individually or cumulatively

  22. Observation Scoring Summary

  23. Step 2- Determine Overall Rating for Each Standard • After the rating for each element is established, an overall rating for each standard may be determined • It may be helpful to work between two browsers for this portion by having the “Observation Scoring Summary” open in one browser and the “Summary Rating Form” open in another to record the rating for each element

  24. Summary Rating Form Reminders • All observation containers must be locked to access summative items • Every element for every standard is marked (not demonstrated requires comment) • Ratings are qualitative and rely on professional judgement • Overall rating for each standard is chosen by the evaluator after reviewing all of the elements within a standard • Comments must be provided for each overall standard on the Summary Evaluation Form • Teacher and Evaluator Signatures required, teacher comments are optional
