Water Efficient Fixtures • Faucets: • WaterSense fixtures can reduce water by 30% • Toilets: • By replacing with a WaterSense toilet could save 2 billion gallons a day across the country • Shower Heads • High efficiency shower fixtures can be purchased from $10 to $20 • High efficiency fixtures can achieve water bill savings of 25-60% and reducing flow rates from 5.5 gpm to less than 2.5 gpm

  4. Landscape/Irrigation • Native Vegetation • Water efficient irrigation systems • There are a variety of types of irrigation systems used, but drip irrigation systems are the most effective • Manual Watering

Storm Water Management • Rain Gardens: • Rain Garden’s can serve 30% more rain water than an average lawn which can significantly control flooding • Mulch: • A layer of organic material that stabilizes soil temperature as well as conserve water. • Can be used in and around flower beds, trees, and shrubs to allow water to soak in. • Rain Buckets: • Capturing rain water from roof tops can decrease run-off significantly and can be reused to water plants, and shrubs.

Taking Action Now • News Letter Initiative • Belle Meade’s weekly newsletter is the perfect opportunity to include a green living section to make resident aware of storm water management plans, and a variety of landscaping ideas that can reduce water use. • Tax Deduction • Resident’s of Belle Meade pay taxes to Nashville and Belle Meade • If the city instated a tax cut for resident’s who installed water efficient fixtures than the resident’s would be more likely to take the step to green living • The change would be good for the residential homes property value and set a standard for Green Living in Belle Meade
