  2. Figure of speech Metaphor A metaphor states that one thing is something that it literally is not. Metaphors are also commonly created by using a word in its non-literal sense. A metaphor is a figure of speech. Similes A simile is a figure of speech that likens one thing to another (usually by using the word like oras) Personification Personification is giving a human trait or quality to something non-human (e.g., an animal, an object, or a concept).

Sparrow on saguaro watches rabbit watch us in the gold of sun setting. • Hawk sails on waves of light, sees sparrow, rabbit, lizards, me, our eyes shining, watching red and purple sand rivers stream down the hills. I stretch my arms wide as the sky like hawk extends her wings in all the gold light of this, home
