  4. 3 Types of Waves • P-Wave = Primary wave • S-Wave = Secondary wave • L-Wave = Love wave

  5. 1. P-Waves • Primary Waves • Pressure wave • Pushing and Pulling of rock within the earth • Fastest Waves (arrives First) • Travels through solid AND liquid • Travels through the Earth (not along the surface)

  6. 2. S-Waves • Secondary Waves • Shear wave • Side-to-Side, like a Snake • Travels through Solids only • Travels through the Earth (not along the surface)

  7. 3. L-Waves • Love waves – named after A.E.H. Love • RoLLing wave; up and down or side-to-side movement • Slowest wave; Last to arrive • Travels aLong the surface of the Earth **** CAUSES THE MOST DAMAGE ****
