  1. Let’s talk about our Collections

  2. We currently use these “canned searches” as Collections… This is going to change! (They won’t disappear…they’ll become Exhibits. More on that later…)

  3. Moreover, the page layout will change also ….

  4. Instead – the Collection’s Page can look like this!

  5. The Collections Page will now refer to collections as they appear in our Clients…. … and these refer to collections as they appear on the Advanced Search Page.

  6. Format Driven Collections . . . • Arts & Artifacts • Photographs • Maps • Audio • Video • Newspapers • Can you think of others?

  7. … followed by Institution • Pasadena City College • Pasadena Museum of History • Pasadena Public Library • Huntington Library • More to come…

  8. Here is what we used to have on the Advanced Search Page …

  9. Now it looks like this ….

  10. But we really want something more like this!

  11. Here’s an idea of what it will look like…

  12. Next, let’s talk about our Exhibits

  13. We currently utilize the “Exhibit” field to capture our two Exhibits (Early Black History in Pasadena & Early Education in Pasadena) which gives up more control than using a “canned” search approach as we did for the for the Tournament of Roses, Rose Bowl, Busch Gardens, Old Town Pasadena images.

  14. FEATURED EXHIBITEarly Education in Pasadena1870s – 1920s PAST EXHIBITS Early Black History in Pasadena[text and link here] Tournament of Roses[text and link here] [more below] Here’s an idea of what the Exhibits Page can look like.

  15. There are currently 201 images that result in the “canned” searchfor the Tournament of Roses. Suggested Exhibit Title: Tournament of Roses There are currently 62 images that result in the “canned” searchfor the Rose Bowl. Suggested Exhibit Title: Rose Bowl There are currently 22 images that result in the “canned” searchfor the Rose Bowl. Suggested Exhibit Title: Busch Gardens There are currently 62 images that result in the “canned” searchfor the Rose Bowl. Suggested Exhibit Title: Old Town Pasadena

  16. The Questions are: Do we want to keep these four Exhibits generated by a “canned” search? (Leave alone) Or, do we want to add the exhibit title to the Exhibit field for each image and disable the “canned” search?

  17. These options represent two methods of generating collections. In the method by which we “curated” Early Black History in Pasadena &Early Education in Pasadena we “hand-picked” images and then applied the corresponding exhibit title to the Exhibit field. In the method by which we “curated” the Tournament of Roses, Rose Bowl, Busch Gardens, and Old Town exhibits we created an automated search across all fields that have select keywords. Neither is necessarily better; but do we prefer consistency?
