Team Progress • Choose design to modify from 4 types of phone types • Chose Bell’s MagnetoPhone to modify • Brainstormed various design improvements • Construction of prototype • Testing and development of prototype • Writing the patent and making CAD drawings • Bringing everything together for final presentation

  4. Choosing Design • Group discussion on 4 phone types • Chose Bell’s Magnetophone design • Reasons for choosing magnetophone: • Easiest to work with • Could be easily improved upon • Transceiver was more straightforward than the receiver

  5. Brainstorming • Weakness of Bell’s Prototype: • Signal strength very low • Not portable • Proposed Improvements: • Pass current through coil • Improved suspension system for the magnet • Include soft-iron core • Introduce a step up transformer into the design

  6. Construction of Prototype • Decide and buy various material used in the prototype • Build the base and outer shell • Build inner components of prototype

  7. Testing & Development • On testing the prototype we discovered that our signal strength did not match our expectations • Hence we made certain changes to our design: • Modifying the coil to be multilayered • Use of an op-amp circuit to improve signal strength
