  1. Classroom Policies and Procedures Mrs. Leal, 5th Grade

  2. Classroom Rules • Always be prepared for class. • Follow directions. • Respect everyone and everything. • Raise your hand if you need help.

  3. Entering the Classroom Upon Arrival in the Morning: • Enter the classroom quietly. • Put belongings away • Write down homework • Write Vocabulary words (Fridays only). • Turn in forms or any money due. • Begin the bell work.

  4. Leaving the Classroom • During your Reading Block you will be allowed to step out of the classroom only once. • It may be to pick up something from your homeroom • It may be to go to the bathroom • Raise your hand to be excused • Make sure you ask to be excused during non-instructional time.

  5. Getting Student’s Attention • Raise your hand Keep the Following in Mind: • While conferring or meeting with groups, do not interrupt unless it is an emergency. • During Fab Five you may approach Mrs. Leal with a question while switching centers.

  6. Bellwork • There will be an assignment, on the Promethean board or Dry/Erase board, to work on before beginning the day’s lessons. • Come in, quietly, settle down and begin working on Bellwork. • If you finish Bellwork you may take out your book and read at your desk.

  7. Give Me Five You may hear Mrs. Leal ask you to “Give Me Five.” What do you do?

  8. Collecting Class Work and Homework There will be baskets labeled at the front table • You are responsible for placing your class work in the basket by the end of class. • You are responsible for placing your homework in the basket upon arrival to the classroom. • Once Mrs. Leal begins teaching, no more homework will be collected. • All Fab Five written activities will be collected Thursdays.

  9. Getting Help • Raise your hand. • If working with a partner, ask your partner for assistance. • If you and your partner cannot figure it out, ask Mrs. Leal during non- instructional time. If you need additional help, come see me after class, and we can schedule a meeting time.

  10. End of Class Dismissal • The time does not dismiss the class; I dismiss the class. • Pack up your belonging quietly and line up in front of the classroom. Do not open the door. • Mrs. Leal will inform you when you may walk and line up by Ms. Ochoa’s door. • Remain quiet while waiting in the hallway. There are other classes going on.

  11. Cafeteria • Line up and walk quietly to the cafeteria • Mrs. Leal’s Class is assigned to: • Line A • Table 6 • Keep your area clean • Be mindful of others • Do not stand up, unless you are given permission • Raise your hand to obtain Ms. Nicole’s attention • Please be mindful of others • Keep noise level to a minimum • Use soft voice

  12. Eating in the Classroom • Keep your area clean • Keep walking around to a minimum • This will avoid spills • Keep noise level to a minimum • Use soft voice • Throw your garbage away in large plastic bags

FAB FIVE What is it? • Get to choose what you want to work on daily. • Each center will have different activities for you to complete by Thursday of each week. • You get to work independently and in Groups. • You get to meet with with Mrs. Leal on certain days to review lessons and help you with lessons you may not fully understand. We will be training for the next few weeks on Fab Five.

  14. Class Helpers Helpers are selected and written on the Classroom Helper Poster every Monday. Door Holder – Opens and holds the door for the class Line Leader – Leads the class to its destination Technology Manager – Makes sure Promethean and computers are turned on in the morning and off before dismissal. Book Manager – Keeps track of books being checked out or in in our classroom library. Attendance Manager – Places folders on the desk of students that are absent and places it in the Make-up Work basket.

  15. Absence and Make-up Work • An absent folder will be used to place any papers or activities a student has missed. • At the end of class the “Attendance Manager” will collect the “Absent” folder, clip the work together and place the work in the “Absent/Make up Basket”. • If you are absent, make the next day back to school you go to the “Absent/Make-Up” basket to collect your missed work. It is your responsibility to do this. • You will have one day, for every day missed, to make up your work.Work will not be accepted after your make-up day has passed.

  16. If Mrs. Leal is not in the Classroom… Respect and follow instructions given from any other supervising teacher.

  17. We are 5th Graders.We are the role models of this School: • Walk quietly and in order when walking down the hallways. • Assist teachers in the hallway if you see the with their hands full. • Open the door for others. • Say good morning to those you see. • Treat everyone with respect. • Inform Mrs. Leal, Ms. Ochoa or the office about any inappropriate acts taking place within the school. • Be nice! Respect everyone and everyone will be nice and respect you!
