  1. AIM: How does a country’s foreign policy influence relationships between other countries? • Do now: List 3 countries that you believe are in “the Middle East” • HW: Create a propaganda poster for one of the following • the Shah of Iran to convince the people to adopt western customs. • for the Ayatollah Khomeini to convince people to reject secularization.

  2. Show sample propaganda posters • Discussion: What would some reasons be why some Middle Eastern countries despise the United States? Explain.

  3. ReaRead Aloud (7 minutes) • We are going to read together the background information about the Shah that ruled in Iran. • You will complete the questions in your notebook following, write the questions and your answer since you cannot keep the handout.

  9. Wrap Up There was a change in society as the people of Iran went from a more “westernized” Shah to a strict Islamic Ayotallah Khomeini. The relationships that we build with nations or the affairs we intervene in could lead to some hostility between the US and other nations.
