  2. Chapter Summary • PTA in a neighboring district offers to fund an extra tutorial program for school. • Board hasn’t made a decision. • Principal John is not too thrilled about the idea.. Reason: • Equity not given to other schools… • What if it doesn’t work? • Too risky to allow.

  3. Things to consider PEOPLE WANT A GREATEDUCATIONAL PROGRAM, NOT A MEDIOCRE ONE.. What does this mean??? Activity time: Stand up! stretch and start moving around.. When we tell you to stop, get with a partner and wait for further instructions.

  4. Question: What does a great educational program look like to you? What does is look like to our parents? Be honest.. Is it different?? THE MIND OF THE EDUCATOR THE MIND OF OUR PARENTS How can we combine our ideas for the benefit of our students?

  5. Things to consider PEOPLE NEED TO HAVE A VOICE.. What does this mean??? At your table.. Discuss what we can do to ensure that parents concerns are heard and taken in to consideration.

  6. “PARENTS, YOUR VOICE MATTERS!” • Establish “open door policies” at your school • Invite parents to visit your schools any time. • Communicate with parents regularly what happens at your school • Establish a parent “open forum” at Parental meetings.. • Leave a suggestion box at the front office of your schools. • Make parents a part of decision making committees of your schools. • LISTEN to your parents..

  7. Things to consider The school belongs to the PEOPLE… What does this mean??? Activity.. ON YOUR OWN. Write a paragraph of what the statement above means to you. Reflect the meaning of it in your own personal setting… With your own children, nieces, nephews, etc..

  8. Things to consider Sometimes, GREAT changes, involve GREAT risks.. Final reflection: What have we done at the campus that, although a little scary at first, provided some necessary change to our environment?
