East Asia Core Observatories Association (EACOA) EACOA aims to construct powerful and cutting-edge astronomy in East Asia by promoting and organizing cooperative works of astronomy based on the four institutes. They are: National Astronomical Observatories of China (NAOC), National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ), Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI), and Academia Sinica Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics (ASIAA)
The EACOA performs: (1) Promotion of cooperation of astronomy in the East Asia region. (2) Promotion of East Asian joint projects in the fields of scientific research, instrumental and technological developments, and telescope construction. (3) Exchange, partnership and, common use of observing facilities and other resources in the East Asia region. (4) Exchange of astronomers, especially of younger generation. (5) Support of the activities of the East Asian Astronomer's Meeting (EAMA) and other activities of astronomers/communities/organizations to promote the cooperation of East Asian astronomy. (6) Discussion toward the future direction of East Asian cooperation. (7) Other related activities. To accomplish the purpose and activities mentioned above, and to discuss the overall topics relating to East Asian cooperation, EACOA organizes the Directors Meeting which will be held at least once a year regularly.
IAU Office for Public Outreach The International Astronomical Union (IAU) will locate the Office for Public Outreach (OPO) at the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) in Mitaka, Tokyo. This is a joint venture between the IAU and the NAOJ, the OPO will lead and coordinate the global astronomy outreach activities of the IAU in supporting the decadal strategic plan “Astronomy for the Developing World” “Building from the IYA2009.” IAU Public Outreach Coordinator • - working closely with the IAU OAD and relevant IAU commissions • collaborate with the OAD on international funding proposals • - coordination of volunteers across the world • - coordinate activities in collaboration with OAD regional nodes and other task forces
