Living Conditions Of The Black People Today • small income1 • no health insurance2 • bad health support • shorter life expectancy • worse education • much more black people than white people are unemployed • some churches, neighbourhoods, organisations and facilities3 are still divided between blacks and whites • higher criminal rate 1 income – Einkommen, 2 health insurance – Krankenversicherung, 3 facilities – öffentliche Einrichtungen

  4. Rosa Parks • was born on 4th February 1913 in Taskegee/Alabama • worked for the ``National Association for the Advancement of Colored People´´ • 1. December 1955: She refused to leave her seat on the bus for a white person => she was sent to prison and had to pay a fine1 => ``Montgomery Bus Boycott´´ • she died on 24th October 2005 in Detroit • her open coffin² stood after aunanimously3 decision of the Senate in the US-Capitol => she was the first woman who got this special honour 1 fine – Geldbuße, 2 coffin – Sarg, 3 unanimously - einstimmig

  5. ``Montgomery Bus Boycott´´ • the black people refused to use buses => fare increase1 • the goals they were aiming at²: same rights for black and white people, respectful treatment, employment of black bus drivers • the protest lasted for 382 days • 21st December 1956: the Supreme Court3 declared that segregation4 on public buses is against the Constitution 1 fare increase – Fahrpreiserhöhung, 2 the goals they were aiming at – die Ziele die sie erreichen wollten, 3 Supreme Court – Oberster Gerichtshof, 4 sergregation - Rassentrennung

Martin Luther King • he was born on 15th January 1929 • during his college education he learned a lot about Mahatma Gandhi‘s teachings • he was the leader of the ``Montgomery Bus Boycott´´ • 1964 he got the Nobel Peace Prize1 • 4th April 1968: he was shot by James Earl Ray • the third Monday in January is public holiday because of him (Martin – Luther – King – Day) 1 Nobel Peace Prize - Friedensnobelpreis
