Lake Taylor Middle School and Ruffner Middle School embark on a transformative journey supported by the School Improvement Grant and Johns Hopkins University’s Turnaround Model. Under the leadership of Dr. Lynnell Gibson and Mrs. Sharon Mims, the schools focus on fostering teacher collaboration, enhancing curriculum delivery, and implementing data-guided instructional practices. With dedicated staff and facilitators, both schools are committed to improving student engagement, especially for students with disabilities, ensuring targeted professional development, and changing school climate through innovative projects and assemblies.

LTP Transformation Model • LTMS and Ruffner receive monthly technical assistance from a team of JHU facilitators. • LTMS receives direct instructional support in Math, English/Reading, Social Studies, Special Education, and Climate. • Ruffner receives direct instructional support in Math, English/Reading, Science, Social Studies, Special Education, and Climate.
Additional School-based Support • Each school has a School Transformation Facilitator (STF). STF supports all content areas and the use of data-driven decision-making. • Each school also has grant-funded staff that includes full-time instructional coaches for Math, English/Reading, Science, Social Studies, Special Education, and Climate.
Lake Taylor Middle School Next steps for the rest of the school year… • Continued focus on student engagement and differentiation. • Continue to provide professional development that is differentiated based on the needs of students and staff. • Continue to focus on the programming and supports needed for students with disabilities to make academic progress. • Implement cluster projects to personalize student recognition.
Ruffner Middle School Next steps for the rest of this school year… • Continued focus on student engagement and differentiation. • Continue to provide professional development that is differentiated based on the needs of students and staff. • Continue to focus on the programming and supports needed for students with disabilities to make academic progress. • “Changing the Climate day” and discipline assemblies will be taking place in January.
Phase Out of Grant Support Plans for phasing out supports provided by the grant: • Continued data-driven instructional practices. • Differentiated professional development delivered to meet staff needs will continue. • Consideration of retaining coaching position(s) based on school needs.
