  1. Chapter 7 • The American Revolution

  2. Haym Salomon gave the American government $600,000 to help fight in the war against the British.

  3. 20 to 30 percent of Americans were Loyalists, people who still supported Britain.

  4. 40 to 45 percent of Americans were Patriots, people who supported independence from Britain.

  5. The rest of the Americans will remain Neutral, people who do not care which side wins.

  6. Native Americans and African Americans will fight for both sides.

  7. Women like Molly Pitcher would help in the war effort.

  8. Deborah Sampson dressed up as a man so she could fight in the war.

  9. George Washington will be a General for the Continental Army (Americans) during the Revolutionary War against the British.

  10. The British will take New York City.

  11. The British will hire German Hessian mercenaries to help fight the Americans.

  12. Washington surprised the Hessian soldiers by attacking Trenton the day after Christmas.

  13. General Howe tried to capture Washington in Philadelphia. He failed although he did take the city.

  14. Chief Brant supported the British.

  15. The Battles of Saratoga were important victories for the Americans because it was the turning point of the war.

  16. Claiming he did not receive enough credit, Benedict Arnold turned traitor against the Americans.

  17. France will help the Americans fight the British.

  18. Marquis de Lafayette is a 19 year French nobleman who will volunteer to fight with Washington.

  19. Baron von Steuben from Germany will help train the Americans.

  20. The Spanish will also help the Americans.

  21. A quarter of the men died at Valley Forge from malnutrition, exposure to the cold, or disease.

  22. Many Americans would desert, or leave the military without returning.

  23. George Rodgers Clark would use the trees to hide his numbers.

  24. A privateer is a privately owned ship given permission to fight the British navy.

  25. John Paul Jones is an American hero for defeating the British ship Serapis in a naval battle.

  26. The British take the fight to the south hoping to get help from slaves and loyalists.

  27. Lord Cornwallis is the British leader.

  28. Francis Marion will use guerrilla attacks against the British. He will become known as the Swamp Fox.

  29. Marion will hide in the swamp’s in the daytime after fighting at night.

  30. With the help of the French, the Battle of Yorktown will be the last major battle of the war.

  31. Nancy Hart shot and killed a Loyalists for demanding she cook a turkey for them.
