  4. Collective Nouns • Nouns that name a collection of people or things acting as a unit • EXAMPLES: community, class, army, team, flock, family, club, committee, etc.

  5. Compound Nouns • A noun made up of more than one word • EXAMPLES: fire engine, soap opera, rock-and-roll, jack-of-all-trades, toothbrush, dishwater

  6. Common vs. Proper Common Proper Names a specific person, place or thing EXAMPLES: Willa Cather, North America, Paris, Venus • Names any one of a class or people, places, or things • EXAMPLES: novelist, continent, city, planet
