Improving & Expanding School Facilities  2. Improve Capacity to Manage Data Effectively to Improve Teaching & Learning  3. Increase the Diversity of Faculty & Staff, including Leadership Positions COMMUNITY Work to Engage the Community

METCO PROGRAM GOALS • Inform families of new curriculums and assessments and ways to support children at home. • Staff participates in Professional Development topic Growth Mindset by Carol Dweck at schools and discusses its relevance with students and families. • Staff learn and understand Stereotype Threat by reading Whistling Vivaldi by Claude Steel and share with families.

  7. METCO PROGRAM GOALS • Ensure METCO student representation in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math program areas. • Identify K-2 Assessment data that would provide early warning indicators for academic and social/emotional targeted interventions. • Ensure school assignment plans for additional space support METCO enrollment in the coming years.

METCO PROGRAM GOALS • Expand our recruitment network with METCO families and partners to increase diverse candidates to work in Newton. • Identify ways for METCO office to support and retain a diverse educator workforce. • Invite Key Administrators to METCO Parent Council meetings to improve two-way communication. • Implement Parent Board for METCO Parent Council to plan Parent Engagement activities and improve two-way communication.

  12. DATES TO REMEMBER • Thursday, October 9th – Early Release Day! Please plan accordingly  • Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE) Test administered at BPS on Saturday, November 8thfor Grades 6, 8, and 9. Counselors will be sending out applications for ISEE Prep Classes at METCO, Inc. • SAVE the DATE - METCO Inc., Evening of Champions Dinner Fundraiser, May 2015 proceeds support scholarships, lobbyist, and activities for our students.

  13. TRANSPORTATION SAFETY MEASURES • METCO, Inc. is not an afterschool program. If a child is taken to METCO, Inc. due to an adult authorized not at the bus drop off location and time, must be picked up within 30-45 minutes of the scheduled drop off time. • Parents should pick up students on the one side students disembark from the bus to ensure safety and help keep us to our schedule. • Adults picking up the child must be visible to the monitor, not inside a vehicle.

  14. TRANSPORTATION SAFETY MEASURES • Keep your bus routes handy i.e. take a picture with your phone, save it, and send them to adults authorized for pick up. • Bus Monitors do not have every route schedule with them or memorized. • Priority is safety for students on the bus, therefore, adults not recognized may be asked to provide identification. • Inform the monitor when an after school program is closed to coordinate the adult pick up.
