What are some positives to using nuclear energy? • A large abundance of energy is produced with the use of a lot less materials then would be used for fossil fuels • The function of electrical energy is continuous • Lower operation costs • It solves the issue many renewable energy sources have: What can be done if the source of energy is unavailable? • The sun is blocked off from clouds, there is no wind for the wind towers, ect. • Fission is a continuous reaction so it doesn’t have anything stopping it • By using less fossil fuels, we will be cleaning our air

What are some negatives about nuclear energy? • A meltdown can occur and release nuclear isotopes into the area and effect people living there as well as their offspring • A nuclear powerplant has a limited amount of time for active use (10 years). To keep building more powerplants, the costs of electricity could increase • Nuclear powerplants serve as a target for terrorist attacks and can encourage our military to make more nuclear weapons • If the control system fails in keeping the fission reaction under control, the entire reactor could explode and kill many people. • Nuclear waste management: we place our nuclear waste in a cave and say that 10,000 years will be enough time to store it. This is not always the case.
