  1. 54% 5 A*-C inc English & Maths Welcome To ‘In It Together’ Evening

  2. Loving God, as our young people begin this time of exams, They may feel some anxiety and frustration. Help them to stay focused. Give them a clear mind, to perform to the best of their ability. Help them to study with dedication and vigour. Grant them silence so that they may process the knowledge they have obtained. Let them sleep peacefully at night, so that they are refreshed and renewed for their upcoming exams. Be with them, gentle God, during these days. Undoubtedly, there will be moments when they want to quit and give up. Please sustain them, Holy One. Guide them during times of trouble. Amen.

  20. Revision Plans in School • Students will be sitting different exams across the three subject areas. • In preparation for these exams the timetable will be collapsed from 17th December 2012. • To enable students to concentrate on their one subject they will attend 5 hours of revision classes with their specialist tutors to help them with their final exam.

  21. After School Revision • Biology :Miss Bamber • Chemistry: Mr Furey • Physics: Mr Cunningham • All are available after school, particularly for those who have applied to re-sit and will therefore not be attending these subject revision sessions in school.

  22. Re-Sits – new regulations • The first grade will also appear on your certificate • Only the LATEST exam score will be used to calculate the final grade. • This will happen even if the new marks are lower than the previous mark. • Re-sitting could be a risk.

  23. The teachers will support your child if they choose to re-sit but it must be a decision that is carefully thought through. • Is their current grade an accurate reflection of your childs ability? • Does your child have the time to revise for two units of work? • Remember they are also studying for the Additional GCSE this year.

  24. Questions to ask your child • Is the overall mark close to the boundary? • Can I they make up the difference by securing an excellent score in my final exam? • How are they preparing for the final CORE exam? • Can they make up the difference by securing an excellent ISA score? • Deadline for entry: 15th October 2012

  25. Summer re-sits • Changes in regulations: the 40% rule. • For a resit to qualify in the summer exam session two components must be completed, i.e. two subjects or one subject and another ISA.

  26. Summer Examinations • All candidates will sit 3 subject examinations and complete another practical examination (ISA) • Triple award candidates will sit 3 FURTHER subject exams and another ISA to complete their qualifications.

  27. Mock Exams: Dates • Additional Science • 3 mock examinations will be scheduled during the week : • 12th – 14th December 2012

  28. Revision Materials • Revision guides and workbooks for the Additional Science examination are available tonight and also from the science prep room every day at break time. £3.00 each, £1.00 for the answer book. • The AQA website is a good source of past papers, with marking schemes. • However there is no substitute for homework done thoroughly throughout the year.
