  2. St. Mark All about the patron of our Parish

  3. Who is St. Mark? • He wrote the Gospel of Mark • Also known as John Mark. • NOT one of the 12 apostles. • The patron saint of notaries.

  4. Who did he know? • He was a missionary of the Early Church with Paul and Barnabas. • Barnabas’s cousin. • A friend of St. Peter, our first pope.

  7. Winged Lion and Venice • Mark is the patron of the city

  8. Saints fighting • When Paul and Barnabas left on the first missionary journey, Mark went with them. (Acts 13:4-5) • But Mark left early. (Acts 13:13) • Mark must have gotten Paul mad at him, because Paul refused to bring him on the next trip. (Acts 15:36-40)

  9. Bros again • But don’t worry, there is a happy ending to this story. • They must have patched things up, because Paul asked Mark to visit him in prison. (2 Timothy 4:11) • Mark may have been present when Paul was martyred.
