  4. What is AusAID • The Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) is the Australian Government agency responsible for managing Australia's overseas aid program. • Head quarters in Canberra and is represented in 41 posts overseas.

  5. Aim of AusAID • To help developing countries reduce poverty and promote sustainable development – particularly focuses on neighbouring countries – Asian Pacific Region • Aid is positive for national interests. It can promote stability and prosperity

Objective of AusAID • Assist developing countries – reduce poverty and achieve SHD • Assist countries in Australia's region to achieve the MDGs • Work with governments in developing countries to help manage a range of global threats – i.e. people trafficking, drugs, HIV/AIDS and other communicable diseases • Respond to emergencies and provide humanitarian assistance.

  8. Where does money come from • All Australians contribute to this aid program – • Guess how much each Australian contributes every week via their tax? $3.30/week

  9. Where do we work? • Through AusAID, the Australian Government provides development assistance to 75 countries. • Mainly with nearest neighbours—Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, East Timor and the Pacific Islands. • Also providing growing assistance to countries in South Asia and increasing the scope of our engagement in Africa, Afghanistan, Pakistan and the Middle East.
