  1. Welcome to Back to School Night While you are waiting for us to get started, you can go ahead and sign up for the different events on the back table, fill out the papers on your student’s desk, and write a note to your child on the smiley paper 

  3. All about me… • Shawnee Mission graduate. • Married for 5½ years. • We have 2 mini-schnauzers named Kay and Moose

  4. My education and experience… • Kansas State University Graduate • 4 years at Ray Marsh. • Taught in Olathe as ESL teacher for 2 years • Masters from Baker University

  5. SPECIALS: • Monday…….. Library 1:00-1:50 • Tuesday…….. P.E/Music 1:00-2:00 • Wednesday…. Art 1:00-2:00 • Thursday……. Music/P.E. 1:00-2:00 • Friday……….. No Specials

  6. ABSENCES/TARDIES/MESSAGES • School begins at 8:10. • Students are Tardy after 8:10 • Call the Attendance/Message Line at 993-4510.

  7. LUNCH: • Hot lunch is $2.35 • Milk alone is .50 cents • Adult lunch is $3.55 • Lunch from 12:05-12:30

  8. RECESS/CLOTHING: • Mark your child’s outdoor clothing. • Almost always go outside for recess • Hat and mittens.

  9. FIELD TRIPS • Return all field trip forms and money to me. • Collect field trip money early

  10. COMMUNICATION • Newsletters posted on the website and e-mailed weekly. • Check folders (green and yellow) for other communications • E-mail: brandijackson@smsd.org • Voice Mail: 993-4528 • Website: http://www4.smsd.org/brandijackson/

  11. CLASSWORK: • Most sent home on Fridays • Some work done in workbooks • Review papers sent home • Check green folder every day. • You can send note to school in there

  12. HOMEWORK: • Homework is an extension of the regular school day. • Approximately 20 minutes per evening. • Homework packets (Mon. night-Thurs. night) • It is your child’s responsibility to return the homework on time. • Part of students’ homework is to read nightly

  13. GRADING: • Stamps, stickers, and markings on daily work. • Some work will be graded with points • On the report card • S (Satisfactory) • I (Improving) • N (Needs Improvement • U (Unsatisfactory).

  14. SUPER SCOOPER HELPERS • I encourage lots of “helping” • Every student assigned a job each day.

  15. GUEST READERS • Every Friday • Arrive in our classroom at 1:30 • You will have until 2:00 to read • Sign-up in back of room!!! • Healthy Snacks MAY be brought in but do NOT have to be 

  16. BIRTHDAYS • Feel free to send treats to school! • Brownies, cookies, or cupcakes • No cakes or ice cream • Nothing with Peanuts • Make sure the drinks are clear. • Please do not send birthday party invitations to school

  19. STAR OF THE WEEK • Schedule online • Reminder the Friday before • Starts in September

  20. READING • Open Court Phonics and Literature • 10:00-12:00 with no interruptions. • 90 minutes of whole group instruction • 30 minutes of workshop • additional assistance given

  21. SPELLING • We use Open Court Spelling Spelling. • This is based off of words found in each story • Challenge words will be given on a week by week basis • If a student misses 2 or fewer words they will be on the challenge list for that week

  22. WRITING • Manuscript printing • We will focus on • writing complete sentences • Subjects and verbs • We write stories throughout the year

  23. MATH • We will be learning • Numbers • Operations • Money • Time • Geometry • Problem solving • MAPS+ • mixed drill of addition, subtraction, time, money, and word problems
