  3. COCAINE Coke, charlie, snow, C, crack • white powder, which is snorted or injected • long-term users can become dependent on the way cocaine makes them feel, and experience withdrawal symptoms when without the drug

  4. CRACK Rock, wash, freebase, gravel, stones • small crystals the size of a raisin prepared of freebase cocaine • large repeated doses can lead to panic, even feelings of fear and suspicion (paranoia)

  5. ECSTASYburgers, mitsubishi's, dolphins • tablets of different shapes, size and colour (often white) which are swallowed • users often want to dance for hours

  6. TRANQUILLISERS valium • used to make the 'come down' from stimulants, and heroin withdrawal, less unpleasant • extremely dangerous in combination with alcohol

  7. CANNABIS pot, hemp, grass, ganja • leaves, stalks, seeds of dark grass • can be rolled in a joint, smoked on its own in a special pipe, or cooked and eaten in food • users feel relaxed, talkative and giggly

  8. LSDacid, trips, dots • squares of paper, often with a picture on one side, which are sucked or swallowed • effects are known as a 'trip' and usually start after 30-60 min. and last 8-12 hours

  9. MAGIC MUSHROOMS shrooms • these mushrooms are eaten raw, dried, cooked in food, or stewed into a tea • similar effects to LSD • fly agaric is more likely to cause feeling sick, vomiting

  10. HEROIN Smack, brown, horse, gear, junk, H, jack • brownish or whitepowder that is smoked, snorted or dissolved and injected • sometimes the heroin is so pure that it may lead to overdose which can be fatal

Symptoms • constricted or dilated pupils • unusual outbreaks of temper • different values • deterioration of physical appearance • wearing sunglasses and long-sleeved garments • unusual borrowing of money from friends and parents • changes in school attendance, quality of work and discipline • suspicious trips to storage rooms, basements, restrooms

  12. EMERGENCY! • Tense and panicky • Drowsy • Dehydrated • Unconscious

  13. DEPENDENCE – ADDICTION – DEATH • People use drugs for all sorts of reasons. • Most of them become dependent and seriously damage their health. • It means that they can’t cope with their lives!
