The Atom’s Family http://www.eadshome.com/audio/addamsSong.au
Who belongs to the Atom’s Family? • Patty Proton is the sister of Jimmy Neutron. They live in a town called Matterville. • Patty is so happy because she met a guy online. She tells Jimmy who is not sure of how he feels.
One day, Patty’s boyfriend, Eddie Electron, came to her house. • Because Eddie is so small, Jimmy refused to let him in. • Eddie became upset, but because of Patty’s love he became attracted to the house. He now spends his day running around the house.
What is an Atom • Smallest particle of matter (cannot see) • Takes up space • Has Mass
Proton (“Patty”) Has a positive charge Lives in the nucleus of the atom Neutron (“Jimmy”) No charge Lives in the nucleus Part of an Atom
Electron Negative charge Lives in the electron cloud Constantly moves around the nucleus Parts of an Atom
The positive charge of the proton is attracted to the negative charge of the electron Think magnets! Why does an Atom Stay together
The periodic table tells us the chemical symbol, the number of protons and electrons. Atomic Math
