  1. Dear Wondrous Writers, • Can you believe that it is May already? This week we will be preparing for the NJASK. You have learned so much about planning and writing a story and composition. I know that you will do well. Please write in your Writers Notebook, what good writes do when they write. Think of more than “add details”. Then, I want you to free write for the entire time before we meet for Morning Meeting. We will be sharing these strategies and pieces during Morning Meeting.

  2. Dear Trip Takers, • Jackson Elementary School has 237 students who are riding in vans for a field trip. Each van holds 7 students, a driver, and a teacher. All vans, except the last van, will have every seat filled. • How many vans does the school need for the field trip? Show your work or explain your answer. • • How many students are in the last van? Show your work or explain your answer.

  3. Sample Solution: • 34, 237/7 = 33 R 6 • 6 students are in the last van because 33 buses will be filled and 1 more van will take • 6 students, 1 teacher, and the driver.

  4. Kendra was pasting a wallpaper border on her bedroom wall. The border has a pattern on it. The border tore after the 13th shape. • Describe the pattern that is on the wallpaper border. • Draw the next four shapes that would appear on the border. • What would be the 20th shape on the border?

  5. Sample Solution: • Triangle, triangle, oval, rectangle, house • Rectangle, house, triangle, triangle • house

  6. Dear Mathematicians, • We have learned so much this year and will continue to learn even more. Our activity today is to play Math Vocabulary Match. For your morning work, I would like you to think of your favorite math word, write in on a note card with the definition. We will be sharing our favorite words and definitions at Morning Meeting. (My favorite math word is tessellation because I love repeating patterns).

  7. Mrs. Bentley's class took a trip to the zoo. The students counted and recorded the number of animals in each exhibit. The table below shows their results. Using the grid on the next page, construct a bar graph to represent the students’ findings. Be sure tolabel all parts of your graph and give your graph a title.
