Definitions • Personal Competence • Ability to stay aware of emotions and manage behavior and tendencies • Self – awareness • Not about deep, dark secrets or unconscious motivations • Developing straightforward and honest understanding of what makes one tick. • Self – management • Emotional awareness to stay flexible and direct your behavior positively. • Ability to put momentary needs on hold to pursue larger, more important goals.

Conflicts fester when passively avoid problems • Lack of skills needed to initiate a direct, yet constructive conversations
