This submission exemplifies a strong investigative approach, both conceptually and formally. There is a consistent searching and unpacking of motif associate to the topic through a variety of methods and outputs. Employment of record, documentation, collage, construction and installation all contribute effectively to sub-narratives which are utilised throughout, demonstrating a good understanding of the expanded field of photography. Inventive photographic methods and strategies are employed to open up further readings and understandings of the chosen topic. Each discreet body of work continually reinvents its own context through the introduction of new motif and interventional devices. The use of a range of photographic methods and formats (such as the traveling suitcase) is a strength in the development of concept in relation to image making. The mode of presentation throughout the portfolio (deliberate use of detail, versus object, versus composition/ format) strongly reinforces the motivation behind each work. Photographic premise is clearly located in image making and all other strategies; drawing, collage, construction and installation contribute to this dialogue. This submission employs appropriate language to capture the sense of searching for an understanding of the candidate's Grandmother and her story. There is good metaphorical adoption and management of subject, image, object, and material relationships.
