Milestones of Emotional Development for Infancy and Toddlerhood • Basic emotions- Birth, attraction and withdrawal • Social smile- 2-3m • Laugh- 3-4m, active stimuli • Anger,Fear- 6-8m, Separation Anxiety • Social referencing- 8-12m, seek approval • Self-conscious emotions- 18-24m, shame embarrassment,guilt and pride

  4. Structure of Temperament • Easy child • Difficult child • Slow to warm up child

  5. Theory of Attachment • Preattachment phase- 0-6wks, identify smell and voice. No attach. • Attachment in the making phase- 6wks-6-8m, recognize parents. Do not protest when separated. • Clear-cut attachment- 6-8m-18m-2y,Separation Anxiety present. • Formation of reciprocal relationship-18m-2y on, begin to understand mom’s coming and going.
