Dates • The American civil war started, on 12 April 1861 and finish on 9 April 1865. • The American civil war was a war between the north and south of USA. • About 630,000 soldiers died in this war.
Background • The Civil War was fought all over the United States, although mainly in the South. • There are reports of battles in Oklahoma, New Mexico, Minnesota, etc. • Out of all of these, Virginia had the most battles.
Causes of the war • In the north there were a lot of industries but there were no slaves. • Everyone worked and was free. • In the south there were a lot of cotton, tobacco and sugar plantations. • Black slaves worked on these plantations. they were not free because they belonged to an owner • They bought and sold them. some owners were cruel .
Presidents • The American president Abraham Lincoln was the leader of the north also called “the union”. • Jefferson Davis was the leader of the south, olso called “the confederacy Abraham Lincoln Jefferson Davis
Battles and generals • The most important general of the Civil War wasRobert E. Lee. • Other generals were James Longstreet, Samuel Cooper, Joseph Reid, and Benjamín Huger. Robert E. Lee Benjamin Huger
Battles and generals • The first battle was the battle of Fort Sumter. • Battle of Gettysburg. • The last important battle was Battle of Five Forks on April 1, forcing Lee to evacuate Petersburg and Richmond.
Consequences • The Union of the states was preserved. • Southern African-Americans migrated to the North in large numbers. • Racial prejudice in the South increased rather than decreased.
