Whatis the UnitedNations? • The UN is an international organization of countries set up to promote international peace, security, and cooperation • 192 countries are members of the UN • Any “peace-loving” nation can become a member • 5 permanent members (China, France, United States, United Kingdom and Russia) • 10 non-permanent members Promote= Encourageorsupport Permanent= lasting, standing, stable

  4. Whatdoes the UN do? • Helps toresolveinternationalconflicts • Promotesrespectfor human rights • Helps proposesolutionsto global issues (hunger, education, genderrights…)
