  2. The Very Beginning • Prometheus did not admire Zeus. • He constantly searched for knowledge. • His brother created many animals and creatures • He wanted to create something in his own image • He created humankind

  3. The Humans Discover Fire • Prometheus wanted humans to stop hiding in caves. • He asked Zeus to give them fire, but he refused. • He stole fire and gave it to the humans. • The humans were afraid of fire when they saw it.

  4. The Humans Use Fire • Prometheus taught the humans to use fire and they were amazed. • The humans went out of the caves, built structures, cooked, created torches, made weapons, and waged war among themselves. • Zeus saw this, and was surprised, then angry.

  5. The Punishment of Prometheus • Zeus wanted revenge • He decided to deal with Prometheus and let the humans destroy themselves. • He chained Prometheus to a mountain and sent eagles to eat his liver. • Each day the eagles pecked out his liver and each night his liver grew back • He suffered for many centuries until a hero named Heracles rescued him.
