  2. Chapter 7 - Lesson 2 Concept: Why were Early Christians martyred for their faith? Roman Empire • Romans spoke Latin & but also favored the widely spoken Greek language • Christian missionaries who spoke Greek could preach far and wide, and be understood by many. Ex. St. Paul

Chapter 7 - Lesson 2 Challenges Faced by Early Christians: • Tension with their Jewish neighbors Ex. : St. Stephen was put to death, falsely accused of blasphemy against “Moses & God” (St. Paul among the Jews who killed him – before his conversion to Christianity) • Tension with the Roman authorities - feared Christianity might be a revolutionary political movement
