Research Examples Musculoskeletal disease • Examining inflammatory and anti-inflammatory markers as early indicators for potential catastrophic (life-ending) injury in racehorses. • Researchers will rely on measuring mRNA, or the precursors to proteins, from circulating white blood cells. Research Examples • Equine Pharmacology Research • Anti-doping research laboratory • Emerging threats • Compounds enhancing growth • Detection of prohibited substance • Equine drug testing service laboratory • Performance horse industries • Equine Biological Passport – • Is a biological measurement that indicates a horse has been deliberately enhanced. • The emergence of the fields of proteomics and metabolomics has led to an increase in the development and use of biological markers. Biomarkers, are measurable biochemical, physiological, cytological, morphological, immunological or molecular changes in a biological system related directly or indirectly to administration.
