  2. Aside from temperature, the main way we describe the weather is atmospheric condition.

  7. Lightning The sound you hear with lightning is called “thunder”.

  11. Hail Small balls of ice

  12. Sleet A mix of hail and snow

  13. Icy (road conditions)

  14. When there is a lot of precipitation, or it is violent, we call it a storm. (thunderstorm, snowstorm, etc.) When the precipitation is mild, we call it a shower.(snow shower)

  15. A light rain is a drizzle. Heavy rain is a downpour.Light snow is called “flurries”.

  16. When there is very big snowstorm, we call it a blizzard.

  17. When it is very hot for a long time (more than a couple days) we call it a heat wave.

  18. Natural Disasters are dangerous weather conditions.

  19. Tornado Powerful winds and swirling clouds

  20. Hurricane Longer lasting than a tornado but not as strong

  21. Avalanche Snow falling down a mountain

  22. Landslide/ Rockslide, Mudslide Avalanche with earth

  23. Drought Long dry spell

  24. Flood Lots of water

  25. Tidal Wave/Tsunami A huge wave

  26. Volcano A mountain with molten rock erupting from it

  27. Comet/Meteoroid, Meteor, Meteorite Big Rock from space
