  3. Dreaming • Relates to the period of creative activity when the world was formed, and the resulting relationships between humans and other species and the land.

  4. Dreaming defined • Morrisey et al define ‘dreaming’ as • past, present and future.

  5. Beliefs arising from the Dreaming are that • The ancestral beings leave the world full of signs • Humans have value in themselves • Religious rituals are concerned to renew and conserve life

  6. Beliefs arising from the Dreaming are that • Material life (including people) is under a discipline of behaviour and action • Life is a mixture of joy and sadness that is to be celebrated • Rituals convey a sense of mystery

  7. The Dreaming • Land is central to the dreaming

  8. Dreaming tells about: • the past and how ancient beings were involved in making the world as it is.

  9. Dreaming is about the present • It is the way relationships are giving meaning and sustained in the here and now between people and the place that they live in.

  10. Dreaming is • the law, and is passed on through ritual and ceremony.
