  3. British Strategy(late in the war) • Invade the South! There are lots of Tories (Loyalists) down there to help us out! • Build up an army of Loyalists and re-invade the North!

  4. American Strategy to Win(early in the war) Washington’s Plan: • Kick the British out of the big cities! • Boston: Successful • New York: whoops! • Philadelphia: whoops! • Beat the British in the field: whoops!

  5. American Strategy to Win(late in the war) • Washington’s Plan (North): • Play defense • Home Field Advantage • Outlast the British • Greene’s orders from Washington (South): • RUNAWAY! • Wear the British out!

Trends in the War • Early: • British take major American cities • Washington beaten in the field • Middle: • British invasion from Canada stopped at Saratoga • British hide in the cities • French start supplying Americans • End: • British invade the South and can’t find Nathaniel Green! • French Navy battles British Navy • French, Washington, and Green rush to Yorktown and pin the British in!
