Key Terms And Definitions • Life – in our poem the reference to life is that we should value our lives and seize the day. • Footprints – when they talk about footprints in this poem they are talking about our elders and the success that they had and how we as a new generation should build off of that.

  5. Footprints • In stanza’s 7 and 8 the poem talks about “footprints” and the meaning of this is talking about how our ancestors left footprints and trails of greatness and that we should use this as motivation to excel in life.

  6. Live ya life • When the author wrote this poem the point he was trying to get across about living our life is that we should not waste our life and that we should make the most of all opportunities in life to be successful.

  7. Stanza one • The first stanza of this poem is saying that life is life is an empty dream because if you spend your life being down and not making the most of it you will not be happy, and most likely always be in a slump. It also says things are not what they seem and to me this is saying that life is always full of surprises.

  8. Stanza two • The second stanza is saying life is real and should not be taken for granted and the goal of life isn’t to life for you to die but it is to make the best of life and live to make it to heaven.

Stanza three • The third stanza of this poem is saying that life is not only full of happy, nor just sorrow but it is a mixture of these things, it also implicates that we how we act each day is inevitably going to get us farther in life by the day. The conclusion of that determines our destiny and fate in life.

  10. Stanza four • The fourth stanza explains that life is short and even though we as humans are brave and determined to act on situations we sometimes leads others to their grave instead of bringing life to the world.

  11. Stanza five • Moving to the fifth line this stanza is talking about being in the battle for America in the strife of life we should not be followers in anything that we do and that instead we should be leaders and lead in times of strife.

  12. Stanza six • The sixth stanza emphasizes how we should forget the past and live in the present because living in the past will get us nowhere and we should focus on our future and god is the ultimate goal.

  13. Stanza seven • Stanza number seven says that we should be inspired by the lives of great men and people and those we can make our lives a life of excellence and greatness, and even if we have to leave our loved ones behind we will never be forgotten.

  14. Stanza eight • The eighth stanza explains the use of footprints that our elders have left behind pertaining to their success and what they have accomplished and that this should be motivation for us to accomplish greatness as our ancestors did.

  15. Stanza nine • The last and final stanza summarizes how we should learn to cherish life and keep doing, strive for greatness, still achieve and learn that this takes time and hard work to achieve this.
