    1. Functional Analysis Jane Timmons-Mitchell, Ph.D. Center for Innovative Practices Ohio Scales for Youth: Data Use in Treatment and Quality Improvement April 4, 2008

    2. Functional Analysis Defined Temporal sequencing or patterning of behavior; Key questions: Frequency: how often Intensity: how much impact Duration: for how long Salient contingencies that influence behavior

    3. Applying Functional Analysis Select a target Define target as clearly as possible Include measurement in definition of target Prioritize contributory factors Clarify targets: ABC model (sequences) A: Antecedents B: Behavior/occurrence C: Consequences

    4. Process for the Day Conduct a brainstorming process re: top barriers (one pre-selected per group) When top contributors to barriers are displayed, participants will use dots to achieve consensus on top two For top two, use a goal setting process to develop objectives to address barriers (the how and what)

    6. Goal Setting Fill in the boxes (as many as needed) Prioritize: which boxes are the two most salient Develop goal statements: if the process is successful, how will the barrier be resolved? Review: is the goal achievable?

    7. Development of Intervention Break the goal down into small steps Specify who will do what to accomplish the goal List all the things that must be done to achieve each step; be specific. Include contingency suggestions: what will we do if the first strategy is not successful?
