Oral Presentation. Do’s & Don’ts!. First, … the “Do’s”. Speak clearly Use large fonts . Anything smaller than 24 point is probably a mistake . Use lots of pictures and diagrams. A picture is worth a 1000 words Point to the screen. Use color.

First, … the “Do’s” • Speak clearly • Use large fonts.Anything smaller than 24 point is probably a mistake. • Use lots of pictures and diagrams.A picture is worth a 1000 words • Point to the screen. • Use color. • Be sure the text is projected at the top of the screen. • Walk in front of the projection occasionally.This will wake a few people up • Use palm cards. • Have eye contact with your audience. • Practice your presentation.
Now… the “Don’ts” • Do not use a pointer. • Do not read your slides to the audience. The slides should be an outline of the talk to help the audience follow what you're saying."simple trick: omit articles, connectives". • Do not put too much text on the screen. • Do not talk to the screen. • Just hope that it will come together on the day without preparation and practice.

They are just annoying!! If you are nervous, the pointer will shake a lot. It is difficult to find where a laser pointer is. Most people will overuse the pointer, and drive their audience insane. Click on picture to return to previous page

The student simply scanned in paragraphs from the paper and stuck them into PowerPoint. During the presentation he simply read the text and symbols. This talk violates almost every rule on this page. It was a miserable, brain-frying experience. Don't ever do this!

Click to return to previous page The Importance of History in Everyday Life Three stories from separate times in history are combined in Holes to create one story and to create a theme of the importance of history. The narrator is given information from all three stories but Stanley and Zero only know the history that has been passed down to them through stories and song. Stanley and Zero are able to discover that they know that same song, but they do not know where the song came from so they are unable to discover that their ancestors came from the same town in Latvia. The history of Stanley's great- grandfather and his survival on "God's thumb" has been passed down to Stanley and this allows him to formulate a plan for survival when he and Zero run away from the camp. Stanley and Zero would have been further aided by knowing the exact history of Kate and Sam. If they had, then they would have known that the yellow-spotted lizards would not bite them because of all the onions they had eaten.
This is much better!!! • Three stories combined to create one story showing importance of history. • Stanley and Zero know song but not it’s history. • History would have given them a better chance of survival.
