  2. About This Assignment • This assignment is a replacement of the Communications 801 mid-term exam. • Students will be given lab time to work on it (approximately 3-4 classes). • Students are asked to complete each of the 12 criteria in a slideshow, following the template /order provided. • Students are strongly encouraged to choose their own design for their slideshow (you don’t have to use the design given in the template). • Students should get creative with this, edit for spelling/grammar, and complete ALL criteria requested. • Students will have to complete some internet research as well (when necessary) • When completed, students should save it in their student accounts as the following file name: “utopia(your name)” ex: utopiaGeorge • Assessment: This assignment is worth a total of 50 marks. Each criteria is marked separately, usually on a scale of 1-4. • Due Date: Wednesday, November 16th.

  3. 1. Name your own Utopia (2 pts) • Explain why you chose this name.

  4. 2. Charter of Rights and Freedoms (4 pts) • In two or three paragraphs, tell your reasoning for your creation of a Utopian society (and don’t say because you had to for class). In other words, tell us what you didn’t like about our current society, which brought you to create your own Utopia.

  5. 3. Utopian Motto & Seal (4) • Create a slogan or motto that the citizens of your utopia would live by, as well as a crest/seal.

  6. 4. Utopian Animal (4) • What animal would symbolically represent your utopia? Explain your choice and include a picture.

  7. 5. List of Rules (4) • Develop a list of ten rules that all community members would follow. Give a rationale for each rule.

  8. 6. Provisions of Life’s Necessities (4) • How will your utopia provide the necessities of life? Talk about at least four of them.

  9. 7. Governing Body (4) • Describe the structure of the government in your utopia. Will it be a democracy, a monarchy, dictatorship? How will your utopia make decisions that affect its people?

  10. 8. Geographic Location and Map (4) • Where will your utopia be located? Create a map of your utopia.

  11. 9. Invite your friends to Join You (4) • Through a letter, persuade a friend/relative that your utopia is the best place to live and they should come with you. (letter should be approx 150-200 words in length)

  12. 10. Journal Entry (4) • Write a journal entry (150-200 words) from the perspective of someone who lives in your utopia. You can have them talk about what it’s like living there.

  13. 11. Daily Itinerary (8) • Describe how your utopia’s citizens will spend their time during a typical day as well as a typical week. (you will probably need two slides for this)

  14. 12. Advertisement (4) • Develop an advertisement for your utopia. Through words and pictures, your ad should accurately represent life in your utopia.
