This project focuses on designing and building a lightweight lunar landing gear and latching device for a small cube-satellite. The landing gear will deploy once and not retract, ensuring reliable landing on lunar surfaces. A specialized latch will securely hold the lunar lander section to the satellite body and also release without retraction. Additionally, a dedicated testing apparatus will evaluate both components' performance, allowing them to operate autonomously. The project aims for efficiency and effectiveness in lunar exploration missions.

Problem • Design and build Lunar Landing gear for a small cube-satellite. • Design and build latching device to hold the lunar Lander section to the main body. • Design and build a testing apparatus for the landing gear.
Solution • Landing gear will be designed to deploy once with no ability to retract. • Cube-satellite latch will be designed to release once with no ability to retract. • Testing apparatus will be designed to release and retract the landing gear repeatedly. • Testing apparatus for the latch will be designed to release and retract repeatedly.
Technical Details • Both the landing gear and the latch will be made of lightweight composites and alloys. • Landing gear will be hinged and spring loaded. • Testing apparatus will be able to run autonomously.
Budget • Final details and distribution of funds have not been allocated.
