Lakepromo- Tools for Water Management and Restoration Processes

Lakepromo aims to promote cooperation, share knowledge, and increase public awareness in the field of water management. It focuses on finding the best practices for different water restoration targets to contribute to the objectives of the Water Framework Directive (WFD). The project outputs include country-specific information packages, pilot areas for practical cooperation, international and local seminars, and networking opportunities.

Lakepromo- OBJECTIVES • To promote multilevel and interregional co-operation in the field of water management • To pool the related know-how and technology to find the best available practices for different water restoration targets • To increase public awareness and participation in water management processes -> TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE OBJECTIVES OF WFD: A GOOD ECOLOGICAL AND CHEMICAL STATUS OF ALL SURFACE WATERS IN EUROPE

Lakepromo - OUTPUTS -Country-specific information packages on lake / wetland management and restoration procedures (Joint Summary Manual) -> building blocks for practical co-operation -Pilot areas: best practices are formulated and tested (Manual of Practical Tools) -> experiences from other regions, planning in co-operation with all Lakepromo-countries (excursions, workshops, consultations on specific measures) - International and local seminars on different themes, web-pages -> Networks, pooling knowhow and research results -> Plan for continuity

Lakepromo – Case Lake Ferto (HU) Lake Ferto / Neusiedlersee is a large, shallow border lake (Hungary / Austria) Conference to stakeholders in 2005 -> workshop with experts from Lakepromo-countries -> strategic plan includes all the main stakeholders (authorities, farmers, sectors of fishery, tourism, research, national parks..)

Lakepromo – Case Lake Pryazinskoe (RU) In Karelia the concept of water management and restoration is totally new for local inhabitants -> new ways to motivate people to protect their home lake (workshops, experiences from other regions) -> Environmental education, village events at the lakeside (local people – authorities), informative material, consultations with enterprises, farms

  11. Lakepromo – Case Kaislastenlahti (FI) Kaislastenlahti is a small village (rural area) in Kuopio. A new village plan which takes into account also onsite wastewater treatment (no centralized sewer system). Onsite Wastewater System Decree – new, hard demands! Close co-operation with inhabitants from the beginning -> personal visits to the most of households, village evenings -> positive attitude towards renovations.

Enough time to discussions (comparison of all the possible solutions) Clear information on how to participate, true ways to influence Remember give information throughout the process
