  2. Quantifiers • A type of determiner; • give information about the number of something; • appear in front of nouns; • function also as pronouns. All, any, enough, less, many, more, a couple of, a lot of, much, few, ...

  3. Much x many Much money. Many books. Not much money. Not many books.

  4. Much • Much+ uncountable nouns: Did you buy much breadfor dinner? We haven’t got much luggage. Have you got any money? Notmuch. How muchtime do you need?

  5. Many • Many+ countable nouns: Did you buy many new CDs? We don’t have many questions. Have you got any real friends? Notmany. How manypeople do you know here?

  6. A lot of- lots of A lot of (lots of) books. A lot of (lots of) money. Not a lot of (lots of) books. Not a lot of (lots of) money.

  7. A lot of - lots of • A lot of (lots of)+ (un)countable nouns: Did you buy a lot of new CDs? We don’t have lots of questions. There is a lot of (lots of) money, food, water… There is a lot of (lots of)trees, people, things...

  8. Usage • Much - in questions and negative sentences: Do you drink much beer? I don’t drink much beer. • Many, a lot of, lots of- in questions, negative, positive. I don’t have many (a lot of/ lots of) friends. I have many(a lot of/ lots of) friends. Do you have many (a lot of/ lots of) friends.

  9. Usage • Much; a lot of - without a noun: Do you watch TV much? No, notmuch. We like eating out, so we go to restaurants a lot of (positive). I don’t like him very much. Tom spoke to me, but he didn’t say much.
