  5. Cyclins • Cyclins are compounds that are involved in the control of the cell cycle. • Cyclins interact with proteins called CDK's (cyclin-dependent kinases) to form enzymes. • These enzymes control events such as microtuble formation and chromatid alignment.

  6. Primary & Secondary Tumours • Apoptosis: programmed cell death • Tumour: unchecked growth • Benign tumour: stays • Malignant tumour: moves: cancer • Primary tumour ->metastasis -> secondary tumour

  7. Causes of Tumours • Mutagens: Physical, chemical, & biological agents that change DNA. (radiation, tobacco smoke) • Mutation: DNA changes • Carcinogens: cancer causing DNA changes • Oncogenes: special genes with potential to cause cancer. May be altered normal genes or abnormally expressed
