Sexually Transmitted Diseases • What are STDs? • Sexually Transmitted Diseases • STD’s are dangerous • STD’s may have no symptoms or some that come and go. • Most STD’s can be treated. • The body can not build an immunity to an STD • All are spread through intimate sexual contact with an infected person. • THEY CAN BE PREVENTED!! • #1- Abstinence • #2- Safer Sex (Using protection when participating in any type of intimate sexual contact.)

  4. HIV/AIDS • AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) • a deadly disease that interferes with the body’s natural ability to fight infection • HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) • the virus that causes AIDS

HIV/AIDS • AIDS IS A DEADLY VIRUS • there is no vaccine and NO CURE, it is Fatal! • You can be a carrier of HIV without having AIDS. • An apparently healthy person who has HIV in the blood can pass it on to others. • People infected with HIV have the virus for an average of 10 years before showing any symptoms of AIDS. • AIDS is easy to prevent through ABSTINENCE.
