  1. Recovery Framework for Wales

  2. Why do we need a framework?

  3. Recovery Framework for Wales • To provide guidance to establish systems of recovery focused services. • To encourage a team approach to designing and delivering services including commissioners, planners, service providers and service users. • To inform practice, improve outcomes and monitoring for people who use services.

  4. Definition of Recovery The Welsh definition of recovery is: Recovery from problematic drug or alcohol use is defined as a process in which the difficulties associated with substance misuse are eliminated or significantly reduced, and the resulting personal improvement becomes sustainable.

  5. Findings from consultation events • There is a lot of interest and passion for this subject • There was also confusion! • Wales has some great services • There are notable differences in the way services are run across Wales

  6. Key messages that informed the framework • Service User involvement – an urgent priority • Workforce development and implementation support • Community resources and recovery support • Family and carers • Lack of aftercare • More lived experience needed • Service users don’t know the outcomes of their services or how services are assessed – they should be part of the process

  7. What needs to change..... • Some areas have more to do than others • A strengths based approach • The system needs to link with wider community resources • Care planning • Hope • We need to design out systemic failure

  8. Overview of Framework • Definition • Culture • Recovery Capital • Recovery Oriented Systems of care and Integrated Care Pathways • Recovery Champions, community groups and mutual aid • Toolkit for people working in services • Care Planning • Workforce Development • Outcomes and Performance Management

  9. Next Steps for Framework • Bring the document to life – not to gather to dust on a shelf • Share with staff and service users • Recovery Group members to meet with APB’s • We need a team approach across Wales • Recovery Framework: from theory to practice training available • Ongoing workforce development • Continuous anecdotal feedback to Recovery Group • Audit and review

  10. Next steps for Recovery Working Group • Morphed from APoSM sub group • This is now a Welsh Government Group • Implementation support • We will be working with service users to monitor progress and review the framework

  11. Recovery framework film • Why • Where and what it can be used for • Advocate for it to be a universal training tool for staff and volunteers in the field

  12. Film • Insert film
