Ninth Edition, The Benjamin/Cummings Publishing Company, Inc. • Writing Papers in the Biological Sciences. Victoria McMillan. Fifth Edition, Bedford/St. Martin’s • SimBio simulations (will provide directions) • Mastering Biology, companion website for your text

  7. Strategies • Eat breakfast • Get a good night’s rest • Read the chapter and complete the homework before coming to class. • Get together with others to discuss and clarify concepts. • Use frequent short intervals to study new material.

  8. Communication • Make sure you have an activated e-mail account. • Know how to find assignments and course information on my web site. • Visit me during office hours if you have any questions. • Know how to find the tutoring center

  9. Your Responsibilities • Attend and be prepared for class. Class should be the second or third time you have encountered the material. • Study, study, study for tests and quizzes. • Ask questions if something isn’t clear. • If you need any special accommodations, talk to me now, so we can make the necessary arrangements.

My responsibilities • Grade assignments in a timely manner. • Provide supplements to lecture: • Mastering Biology assignments and quizzes • Georgia View – will include assignments, copies of lectures, and suggested web sites. • Relevant reading material from science news. • Be available for help outside class. • Office hours, review sessions, e-mail, appointments.

  11. Grading Three tests (75pts each) = 225 Class assignments = 150 Final Exam (comprehensive) = 125 Total = 500
