  6. Athens Democracy • Citizens ruled • Was a direct democracy meaning the citizens took active roles in governing • *** Only 10% of population were citizens in Athens

  7. REPUBLIC A FORM OF GOVERNMENT IN WHICH POWER RESTS WITH CITIZENS WHO HAVE THE RIGHT TO ELECT LEADERS WHO MAKE GOVERNMENT DECISIONS

  8. Socrates: Founded the Socratic method or questioning process. Taught that reason should be used in the quest for truth. He was feared and later killed for his beliefs.

  9. Plato: Student of Socrates and wrote down Socrates teachings in Dialogues.

  10. The Republic: Plato’s book describing the ideal government with philosophers as leaders, workers to build and soldiers to defend.

  11. Aristotle: Student of Plato and father of the system called “logic”-gather evidence then use reason.
