Learn to transform barrels into a functional charcoal kiln for home use. Follow detailed instructions to create the housing unit and chimney, ensuring proper insulation. Utilize scrap metal for a fire chamber roof. Enjoy efficient charcoal making!
E N D
Cut the remaining half barrel into thirds • 2 of these “thirds” will be lids for the charcoal chamber
Take the final “third” and flatten it. Then draw lines on it like so. • This will serve as the platform that you will rest the wood on
You’ll put these inside the charcoal chamber, and put the wood on them
With the leftover scrap metal, make a roof for the fire chamber hole
Weld a metal pipe to the charcoal chamber, to serve as a chimney
Step 2: Make Housing Unit • Find a open air building that has a vacant overhanging roof.
When the cement is dry, fill the kiln with a 50/50 mix of dirt (dinh) and rice husk (glep) to serve as insulation
